Update: The comment period for the proposed changes to our Rules of Procedure is now closed. The comment period was from December 9, 2024 to January 9, 2025.

The Social Security Tribunal (SST) is proposing changes to our Rules of Procedure. The 3 sets of changes being proposed are:

  • Minor changes to the Rules that will simplify certain processes or clarify the meaning of particular Rules.
  • Changes that reflect new processes for EI appeals:
    • The Employment Insurance Board of Appeal will replace the SST’s General Division-Employment Insurance section.
    • People will be able to appeal Board of Appeal decisions to the SST’s Appeal Division, without asking for permission to appeal.
  • Changes that reflect the proposed Canada Disability Benefit Regulations (CDB).

More information on all these changes, and when they will come into force, can be found in the Regulatory Impact Analysis Statement.

Next steps

We invite you to submit your comments on our proposed changes by email before January 9, 2025. We’ll then review the feedback to make any necessary changes. The final version will be published in Part II of the Canada Gazette.
