Interim chairperson 

Shirley Netten, LLB, MHSc

Shirley Netten became interim chairperson of the Social Security Tribunal of Canada (SST) on January 30, 2023.

Ms. Netten was vice-chairperson of the SST’s Appeal Division since June, 2019 and a member of that division since 2017. She was a vice-chair of Ontario’s Workplace Safety and Insurance Appeals Tribunal from 2007 to 2019. Previously, in Vanuatu, she served as Counsel to the Ombudsman, Coordinator of UNICEF, and Legal Advisor to the State Law Office. Ms. Netten has also worked in private practice, at two legal clinics, and within the community health sector in Toronto.

Ms. Netten is bilingual and holds a Bachelor of Laws and a Master of Health Science in Health Administration, both from the University of Toronto.
