Sending us electronic documents
We encourage you to send us documents by email. This helps us move your appeal along as quickly as possible.
Please send electronic documents in the formats listed below.
If we can’t open your documents, we’ll return them to you and you’ll need to provide them in a format we can open.
We can accept these text file formats:
Pictures, audio files and video files
We can accept pictures and audio/video files up to 1 gigabyte (GB) in the following formats:
Do not send us photos of your documents. Poor picture quality and file size will slow down your appeal.
You can use a mobile device (like your phone) to scan paper documents with a scanning app, if you don’t have access to a traditional scanner or fax machine. We don’t provide technical support for these apps.
If you send us password-protected documents, you need to give us the password so we can open them. To give us the password, you can:
- Call our toll-free number (1-877-227-8577) and tell us over the phone;
- Send a separate email to firstname.lastname@example.org with the password and your file number.
Don’t include the password in the same email as your documents.
If we don’t have the password, we’ll send the documents back to you.
Documents on CD or USB
If you send us documents on a CD or a USB, save them together in one folder.
